Abstract
This research analyses the depiction of mother-daughter relationships in Pixar’s movie Brave (2012) using qualitative methods. The researcher uses Modes of Mothering theory by Joan Raphael, Attachment Theory by Bartholomew and Horowitz, as well as mise-en-scène theory. Based on the findings, Queen Elinor has transitioned from Regulator Mother to Facilitator Mother. This also improved the quality of the relationship between her and her daughter, Merida, as Merida went through an attachment transition from dismissing attachment to secure attachment. Therefore, this research was conducted with the hope of raising parents' awareness regarding ways of nurturing to create better relationships with children. In addition, this research revealed that children's animated movies could contain broad issues that could help them learn about them, knowing that this type of movie is easy to process.
