Abstract
Background: The prevalence of high blood pressure in Indonesia among individuals aged ≥18 years reached 34,1%, while hypotension was estimated at 5%–34% and tended to increase in those aged 17–19 years and above. This indicated that adolescents, including university students, became a vulnerable group to abnormal blood pressure. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with blood pressure among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Jenderal Soedirman University. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design. The population in this study was the students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Jenderal Soedirman University, with a sample of 270 respondents selected using proportional random sampling. The variables studied were age, gender, family history, dietary patterns, physical activity, smoking, obesity, sleep quality, and stress level. The research instruments used were questionnaires, documentation, and digital sphygmomanometers. The analyses used were univariate, bivariate (chi-square), and multivariate (multiple logistic regression). Results: There were variables that were associated with blood pressure among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Jenderal Soedirman University, namely age (p-value=0,013;POR=0,505;95%CI=0,295-0,864), gender (p-value=0,011;POR=2,277;95%CI=1,210-4,285), family history (p-value=0,039;POR=1,773;95%CI=1,029-3,054), and sleep quality (p-value=0,017;POR=2,395;95%CI=1,166-4,917). There was no association with dietary patterns (p value = 0,117), physical activity (p value = 0,403), smoking (p value = 0,909), obesity (p value = 0,260), and stress level (p value = 0,873). The most dominant variable associated with blood pressure among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Jenderal Soedirman University was sleep quality (p-value=0,017;POR=2,395;95%CI=1,166-4,917). Conclusion: Sleep quality was the most dominant factor associated with blood pressure among students of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Jenderal Soedirman University.
