Abstract

This study discusses translation strategies for words, phrases, and clauses in sentences and expressions in news articles on the website of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of the Republic of Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to identify categories of translation strategies and translation quality, particularly the accuracy of translations in news articles on the website of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of the Republic of Indonesia. The analysis of translation strategies is based on the theory of Bielsa & Bassnet (2009) and the assessment of translation quality by Nababan et al. (2012). This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. The results of the study show that four categories of strategies were identified: Change in the order of paragraphs (31.11%), Elimination of unnecessary paragraphs (28.89%), Addition of important background information (24.44%), and Summarizing information (15.56%). The quality assessment shows that most translations (62.22%) are considered accurate, 28.89% are less accurate due to missing details or added words, and only 8.89% are inaccurate due to excessive summarization, resulting in unclear meaning. Overall, this study highlights that while some translations are accurate, improvements are needed to enhance the clarity of meaning and news information in the target language.
