Abstract

“An Analysis of Illocutionary Act and Its Classification to Direct and Indirect Speech Act in Big Hero 6 Movie” was aimed to identify the types of illocutionary act and its relation to direct and indirect speech act which performed by Hiro in Big Hero 6 Movie. The research is a descriptive qualitative research which analyzes the types of illocutionary act and its classification to direct or indirect speech act. Hiro’s utterances are the primary data source of the research. There were 49 data found in this source (Hiro’s utterances). The data were analyzed using the theory of types of illocutionary act by Searle which included representative, directive, commisive, expressive, declarative and also using Yule’s theory about direct and indirect speech act. The secondary data were taken from the subtitle of the movie. The result of the research shows that in total, there are 49 Hiro’s utterances that contain types of illocutionary act and classified to direct and indirect speech act. The classifications are as follows: representative (21 utterances), directive (13 utterances), commisive (10 utterances), expressive (4 utterances) and declarative (1 utterance) and 34 utterances belong to direct speech act, while 15 utterances belong to indirect speech act. Thus, the most frequent data in types of illocutionary act is representative type with 21 data and in its classification are 34 utterances that belong to indirect speech act. The results of the research are expected to enrich the readers about illocutionary act and direct indirect speech act. The researcher also hopes to the other researchers who want to have similar topic should analyze the topic more specifically.
