Abstract
The research titled “Falconry Potrayed in Jean Craighead George’s My Side of the Mountain and Barry Hines’s A Kestrel for a Knave: A Comparative Study” aims to find out falconry in the novels. Moreover, it explains how falconry can be the solution for the main characters problems. Sam needs Frightful for his survival in mountain and Billy needs Kes as his friend to get the pleasure. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data. The primary data are Jean Craighead George’s My Side of the Mountain and Barry Hines’s A Kestrel for a Knave novels. Besides, Gifford theory is used to analyze similarities and differences appearring in both of the novels, and Mitchel’s theory is used to explain about falconry and falconry training. The result of this research shows that there are some similarities and differences about falconry in both of the novels. Researcher found the same type of bird, falcon as the main characters partner, and the same training method, feeding and manning. In the differences, researcher found the difference purpose of falconry, there are for hunting and for being a friend. The difference also shows in the quantity time of manning time that effect main character be confident to let the bird freefly.
