Abstract
This research entitled Cinderella’s Character Deconstructed by Gregory Maguire in the confession of an Ugly Stepsister is purposed to explain the changing characters of Cinderella short story deconstructed into a novel entitled Confession of an Ugly Stepsister. This research used deconstruction theory by Derrida to analyze the character and characterization from the novel. The main object of this research is a novel written by Gregory Maguire and a short story from Disney as the supporting object. Qualitative method is also used as data processing which is used in the research. Primary data is taken from some parts of the novel such as conversation, character description, and the narration of the story. After the analysis process, the researcher found that characters in the novel have some characters changes accordance with the deconstruction theory. From this analysis, it can be inferred that; this story has an opinion about good and bad behavior and the presentation of a beautiful and a ugly woman. The moral value from this novel is .the novel believes that a kind-hearted woman cannot just be seen by their physical appearance; even if they are ugly it does not mean that they have bad behavior.
