Abstract

THE DIFFERENCES OF MICROLEAKAGE BETWEEN GLASS FIBER POST DIAMETER 1.0 MILIMETERS AND ROOT CANAL WALL DIAMETERS 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 MILIMETERS WITH RESIN COMPOSITE CEMENT ADDITION Glass fiber post is common used as post endodontic tooth restoration because it has similar aesthetic and modulus of elasticity as dentin. Resin cements recently used for cementation of glass fiber post. Glass fiber post retention in root canal is affected by several factors, one of them is resin cementation. Shrinkage during polymerization of resin cements can cause microleakage between glass fiber post and root canal walls. This study aimed to evaluate the differences of microleakage between glass fiber post diameter 1.0 milimeters and root canal wall diameters 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 milimeters with resin composite cement addition. Total samples of 24 mandibular first premolar were divided into 3 experimental groups based on root canal diameter. Group I: glass fiber post diameter 1,0 mm in root canal diameter of 1,2 mm, group II: glass fiber post diameter of 1,0 mm in root canal diameter of 1,3 mm, and group III: glass fiber post diameter of 1,0 mm in root canal diameter of 1,4 mm. Composite resin cement was applied in each groups as luting cement. Microleakage was evaluated using a fluid filtration method under stereomicroscope (20x magniication). Data were statistically analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test (p≤0,05) to evalute the increase of root canal diameters with microleakage level. The microleakage level in order from the smallest were group I (total score: 2), group II (total score: 9,) and group III (total score: 26). There was significant difference between groups. All experimental groups demonstrated a significant increase of microleakage over root canal diameter.
