Abstract

This study was conducted based on the importance of preparing qualified prospective teachers through joining Microteaching course before entering real classroom practice. The aim of this study is to explore the perceptions of students’ internship in joining the Microteaching course and to examine its contribution in enhancing teaching skills. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. The participants of this study were students from the 2021 and 2022 batches of the English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Jenderal Soedirman University, who had completed their internship program in the academic year 2025/2026. Questionnaire data were collected from 30 students, while semi-structured interviews were conducted with five selected students. The questionnaire data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while the interview data were analyzed thematically. The questionnaire results showed that students had very positive perceptions of the Microteaching course, with an average agreement percentage of 93%, which falls into the very high category. Most students agreed that the course helped them improve lesson planning, classroom management, teaching delivery, and communication skills. The interview findings revealed several main themes, indicating that Microteaching supported students during their internship by increasing confidence, reducing nervousness, and strengthening reflective practice. In addition, the course helped students structure lessons, select appropriate teaching strategies, and apply teaching theories in real classroom situations.
