The researcher used three research instruments in collecting the required data. The three research instruments are observation, interviews and documentation. The researcher made non-participant observations and used an observation checklist to obtain the required data, conducted interviews with students in class 8F of SMP Terpadu Manahijul Huda Tasikmalaya and examined documents obtained directly from the teacher. The findings indicate that the role-play technique has a positive impact on students’ learning. The use of the role-play technique has several advantages for students, including increased motivation in learning and communication. Role-playing activities can also provide students with opportunities to practice public speaking. Another impact of using role-playing was that it increase students' creativity in creating properties that will be used in their performances, as well as bring students closer to their peers. The second finding was that almost all students have positive perception of the use of role-playing in the teaching of speaking. Role-playing activities were thought to be capable of creating a new atmosphere in the learning process, making learning activities more enjoyable. However, students continue to struggle with the use of role-playing. The main issue was that students are less confident in presenting their drama because they must memorize the entire script and pronounce it correctly.
