Abstract

The main purpose of the job training is to translate the short movie subtitle from Indonesian to English. The short movie “Jejak Bian” is a short movie with the genre of romance comedy that tells the story of a typical teenager’s daily life. The interesting thing in this short movie is that the language used is everyday language which includes three languages, namely Balinese, Sundanese and Betawi. The goal in making this movie an object of translation is that this movie can be enjoyed not only by the Indonesian people but also by people all of the world. Translating the short movie “Jejak Bian” is part of the work practice which is one of the requirements for completing studies in English Diploma Program. In translating the dialogue from this short movie, three stages were applied namely exploring the source text, pouring the message into the target language, and editing. During the process of translating the short movie, the translation techniques used were variation, literal translation, amplification, compensation, modulation, dan generalization. The obstacles found in the process of translating the short movie were limited vocabulary in target language. Then, the difficulty in inserting subtitles into the video because should match the timeliness with the dialogue. So, to solve these obstacles, the accuracy time in the spoken dialogue was figured out. To help in process of translating were used online or offline dictionary also help by supervisor and proofreader to be good translation.
