Abstract
This research mainly concerns on English language strategies for the hearing-impaired students in SLB B YAKUT Purwokerto. The purpose of this research is to investigate the teacher’s challenges in teaching English to hearing-impaired students as well as describe the strategies used by the teacher to cope with those challenges. The methodology of this study is qualitative explorative. The population of this research was the English teacher in SLB B Purwokerto. The researcher used total sampling because there was only one English teacher in the school. The data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques are used through data reduction, data display, and verification (concluding). The result of this research shows four variables that become the teacher's challenges in teaching English to hearing-impaired students, they are; communication between the teacher with the students, preparation of the teaching material, selection of the teaching media, and the delivery of the teaching material. To cope with the challenges, the teacher uses some strategies as follows; using the total communication approach, adapting the teaching material, choosing visual media, and using drilling in delivering teaching material.
