Abstract

This research is a survey research on accounting students studying at Jenderal Soedirman University (UNSOED), Purwokerto. This research takes the title "Analysis the Effect of Cashless Payment and Mental Accounting on Student's Financial Behaviour". The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cashless payments and mental accounting on the financial management behaviour of UNSOED accounting students. The population in this study were all UNSOED undergraduate accounting students who had completed or were completing the introductory accounting course. The number of respondents taken in this study were 90 respondents. Purposive sampling method is used in determining respondents. Based on the results of research and data analysis using hypothesis testing, it shows that: (1) Digital payment (cashless) has a significant positive effect on the financial management behaviour of UNSOED students, and (2) Mental accounting has a significant positive effect on the financial management behaviour of UNSOED students. The implication of the above conclusion is that in an effort to implement mental accounting, students still use a very simple way to record and categorise their finances, such as handwriting or using the separate envelope method. From this it is expected that students to start using digital tools or applications to effectively monitor their financial activities. In addition, as shown in this study, it would be beneficial for them to consider their understanding of accounting principles, both in their current event project and in their daily lives.
