Abstract

Reading comprehension is a crucial skill influencing students' understanding in both spoken and written texts. Reading comprehension must be trained through class activities, including interactive learning media like composite pictures. The aims of this research are: (1) to determine the significance or insignificance level of the impact of using composite pictures on students’ reading comprehension; (2) to find factors influencing the use of composite pictures on students’ reading comprehension. This research utilized a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental research design involving 24 samples of students in Grades 5B of SD Negeri 1 Grendeng. The research instruments were tests, a questionnaire, and documentation. The research results showed that using composite pictures significantly impacted the reading comprehension of grade 5B students at SD Negeri 1 Grendeng in the academic year of 2024/2025. The average student score before the treatment was 55.00, while the average score after the treatment increased to 82.9, indicating that the student's reading level was independent. The data from the questionnaire showed the factors influencing the use of composite pictures are understanding factors, motivation, and reading facilities or sources. The researcher suggests that teachers implement composite pictures and make them one of the teaching media to improve students' reading comprehension or other uses in learning English.
