Abstract

The film is an audio-visual medium that combines both elements, namely narrative and cinematic. The film is also a very influential medium that exceeds other media because audio and visual work well in making the audience not bored and easier to remember because the format in the film is made as attractive as possible. The purpose of doing job training translating this short film entitled "DOWN", namely for the requirements for completing the study of the D3 English program and being able to apply the translation theory that has been learned during the author's study. This short film called "DOWN" has an interesting storyline, the messages contained in the film are very useful there are several lessons that we can take. Therefore, this film is very worthy of being watched by the people of Indonesia. This translation process used four steps, namely the Analysis step, the Transfer step, the Restructuring step, and the Evaluation. Some of the obstacles faced by the author when translating short films include lack of knowledge and mastery of the source language in the target language appropriately, difficulty in finding suitable terms in the target language, and the difficulty of synchronizing speech and accuracy in the placement of subtitles with the duration of the film. The author's solution to deal with these obstacles is to find articles that can be used as references, using manual dictionaries or online dictionaries as a tool to find and understand terms that are not understood in the source language.
