Abstract

This research's main goal is to analyze the types of expressive speech act, translation techniques, with the addition of the translation accuracy aspect of the translation of expressive speech acts in the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie subtitles. The research was being conducted by using the theory of types of expressive speech acts by Searle and Vanderveken (1985), the theory of various translation techniques by Molina and Albir (2002) and the theory of translation accuracy assessment that was forged by Nababan, et al. (2012). The data of this research are 66 expressive speech acts uttered by all of the characters in the movie. To conduct this research, researcher used the qualitative method. The result of this research shows that there are 11 different types of expressive speech acts found in the movie. As for the translation techniques, there are 5 different techniques found in the movie subtitles. Lastly with the translation accuracy it can be concluded that most of the translation is accurate, hence the high percentage of 86.4%. From the componential analysis, it can be concluded that the story affects the type of expressive speech acts that were used. The choice of translation techniques directly go hand in hand with the translation accuracy. It means the three aspects have direct impact on one another.
