Abstract
This research examines the types and functions of figurative language found in Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS album using Perrine's (1978) theory. This research belongs to the study of stylistics and used descriptive qualitative analysis in which the data were taken from the song lyrics and interpreted the meaning and functions of the figurative language. The result reveals that 62 data from 9 types of figurative language appear in GUTS song lyrics based on Perrine (1978). Simile (29,03%), metaphor (12,90%), personification (6,45%), apostrophe (3,23%), irony (11,29%), paradox (12,90%), overstatement (20,97%), metonymy (1,61%), and allegory (1,61%). The functions of figurative language also appear in the research that found to add emotional intensity (38,71%), to afford imaginative pleasure (37,10%), to bring additional imagery (17,74%), and to say much in a brief compass (6,45%). The use of figurative language allows the listener to relate emotionally and provides a mental image to the song lyrics.
