Abstract
This study is analyzing the effect of Green Banking and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on profitability with bank efficiency as a mediating variable in the general banking industry in Indonesia. Using quantitative methods, the research is based on secondary data from 21 commercial banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2019–2023, selected through purposive sampling. Data were processed using descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, Sobel test, and hypothesis testing with EViews software. The results show that Green Banking and CSR both have a significant positive influence on profitability. Green Banking and CSR also positively affect bank efficiency, while efficiency itself significantly enhances profitability. Furthermore, bank efficiency is found to mediate the relationship between Green Banking and profitability as well as between CSR and profitability. These findings highlight the importance of sustainable practices and efficiency in strengthening bank performance and competitiveness. The study contributes to the literature by emphasizing the strategic role of Green Banking and CSR in improving profitability, while providing practical implications for banks and investors in formulating policies that integrate sustainability and efficiency into their operations.
