Abstract

The background of this research is the teaching strategies the teacher used in teaching during offline meeting after long distance teaching learning during COVID-19. This research is studying about the teaching strategies that teacher was used in teaching recount text for grade eight students in SMP Negeri 4 Purwokerto academic year 2021/2022. This research is focused in answer research questions regarding the kind of strategies in teaching recount text, how strategies are implemented in instructional activities, and the challenges that teacher faced during the implementation process. The design used in this research is case study where the researcher only focuses on analyzing aspects in the teacher’s teaching strategy in teaching. In this research, the researcher chooses the SMP Negeri 4 Purwokerto in January 2022 as the research setting. The researcher takes three kinds of data which are observation data, interview data, and documentation data. The researcher observes two class in SMP Negeri 4 and interview the teacher to acquire the research data. The result of the data analysis points that is the teacher uses multiple teaching strategies in teaching recount text such as presentation, note-taking, question-and-answer, interactive quiz, and group discussion. During the implementation of the presentation strategy the teacher uses many medias such as pictures and videos in delivering the information. The teacher also uses group discussion strategy where students are divided into some small group. The teacher also uses simple language and involve student’s smartphone in teaching. The result of the research also shows that there are some challenges in implementing the strategy such as the gap of knowledge between students, some students have less motivation, and technical problem during the implementation of a strategy.
