Abstract
The study's primary objectives are to identify the various categories of errors and explain the underlying factors contributing to errors in narrative text. The research was conducted among the third-semester students of the English education study program at Jenderal Soedirman University. The sample consisted of 19 students. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research as a research design. The types of errors and causes were analyzed based on Dulay’s surface strategy taxonomy theory. There are four types of errors: Omission, Addition, Misinformation, and Misordering. The findings of this study were that the students made 212 total errors in writing narrative text. The highest frequency of error made by the students was Misinformation, with 152 errors, or 71,69%. The second error was Omission, with 54 errors, or 25,47%. The third was Addition, with 6 errors, or 2,83%, and the last, misordering, was the lowest among all percentages, at 0%.
