External Examiner: Muhamad Ahsanu, S.Pd., M.Sc., M.Hum., Ph.D. Ministry of Education, Culture, research and Technology, Jenderal Soedirman University, Faculty of Humanities, Department of Language Education, English Education Study Program, Purwokerto. The English storytelling competition is a form of English language skill development that requires students to speak fluently and use expression, intonation, and body language to support the delivery of the story. The role of the teacher in preparing students for the English storytelling competition is one of the keys to winning the competition. This study aims to identify the teacher's steps and the obstacles the teacher faces in preparing students to participate in the English storytelling competition at MA Al-Ikhsan Beji Purwokerto. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with a teacher directly involved in preparing students for the competition. This research used a qualitative approach with a narrative inquiry method and was analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis. The findings of this research are as follows: (1) The process of preparing students for an English storytelling competition consisted of selecting storytelling participants and stories, mastering story content, delivery techniques development, rehearsal and technical preparation. (2) The obstacles faced by the teacher in preparing students for the English storytelling competition are divided into linguistic and non-linguistic aspects. The obstacles consisted of difficulties in students' pronunciation, students' low vocabulary mastery, students' low self-confidence, and difficulties in students' facial expressions.
