Abstract

The Use of Telehealth on Quality of Life in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Patients: Systematic Review Diena Siti Nur Baridah1, Saryono2, Yunita Sari3 1Student of Nursing Department, Jenderal Soedirman University 2.3 Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Jenderal Soedirman University, Indonesia Email: nurrochmantiek1@gmail.com Background: Chronic Renal Failure or Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a condition in which the kidneys cannot function properly due to structural or functional damage that causes excessive fluid and waste accumulation in the blood. One of the therapies that can be performed on CKD patients is hemodialysis therapy. A nursing intervention approach is also needed in monitoring patients undergoing hemodialysis, including through digital transformation in the form of using teleheath to help improve the quality of life of patients with CKD. Purpose: This systematic review was conducted to analyze and assess the quality of articles on the use of Telehealth in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Patients. Methods: This study used a research design with a systematic review method. The selection of articles refers to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). This systematic review uses research articles published in the period 2018-2023 and searches for articles using the Pubmed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect and Biomed databases. The keywords used were (“Telehealth”) AND (“Quality of life”) AND (“Chronic renal failure” OR “Endstage Renal Disease”). There were 3,154 articles found and articles were screened using the "PRISMA" method. There are 7 articles with the Randomized Controlled Trial research design to be reviewed and assessed using instruments from the Joanna Briggs Institute. Results: Based on the 7 articles that have been reviewed related to the use of telehealth in patients with CKD, several articles explain the different benefits of using telehealth such as nutritional diet, drug use/drug adherence, fluid restriction, self-efficacy, self-management, implementation of guided meditation, sodium diet, healthy lifestyle and Intradialytic Exergame exercises through various interventions implemented to help improve the quality of life of patients. Conclusion: Telehealth is effectively used in CKD patients because it provides patient consultation and monitoring services that are useful for monitoring the progress of patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy.
