Anisa, Nurul Rifatul. 2025. English Language Teaching in Mixed-Age Classroom at Sekolah Murid Merdeka (SMM) Cilandak. First Supervisor: Weksa Fradita Asriyama, S.Pd., M.Pd., Second Supervisor: Slamet Riyadi, S.S., M.Pd., First Examiner: Nisa Roiyasa, S.Pd., M.Tesol., Second Examiner: Laxmi Mustika Cakrawati, M.Pd., Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Jenderal Soedirman University, Faculty of Humanities, Department of Language Education, English Education Study Program, Purwokerto This study aims to determine the application of English language learning in mixed-age classroom. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. The research sample consisted of 7 mixed-age classroom teachers from grades 1-3 of elementary school, 1 academic coordinator or school principal, and 1 level coordinator. The findings of the data analysis show that there are several strategies applied by teachers in teaching English to accomplish the needs of students, such as how teachers know each level of student development, facilitate students to interact and collaborate, and determine that students have received appropriate challenges. And in teaching, the method most emphasized by teachers is to apply instructions that are appropriate to their level. In teaching English in mixed-age classroom, teachers encounter challenges both within and outside the classroom. During learning, the challenge often encountered is classroom management, namely how teachers can maintain a conducive classroom environment even though some children have already completed their assignments. Teachers must also have the ability to connect the learning objectives of each level in order to create meaningful learning in one classroom. In addition, teachers also encounter challenges in the fields of technology and communication, as well as maintaining good cooperation with parents. And the benefits of implementing mixed-age classroom in English language learning are feel by both teachers and students. For students, this approach opens up opportunities to learn new things beyond the set learning objectives, so that their potential can be more visible and developed. From the teacher's perspective, flexibility in teaching allows them to more easily identify students' potential, provide appropriate challenges, and structure relevant and meaningful learning.
